How to take care of your jewelry?

At Unicus! Jewelry we develop our products based on 925 Silver or 950 Silver, free of nickel or other harmful alloys.

Here we explain how to keep your Silver jewelry always in perfect condition.

WHY DOES SILVER DARKEN?
Surely, on more than one occasion, you have been surprised that it has darkened and lost all its brightness.
Well, as they say, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that it is inevitable that it will change color, the good news is that it has a solution!

First of all, note that all silver darkens and this does not mean that your piece is of poor quality.
This deterioration is caused by a chemical reaction that takes place in silver when it comes into contact with agents in the environment, although it is popularly said that silver oxidizes. In reality, hydrogen sulfide is responsible for our silver piece “tarnishing.”

And with Sterling Silver, with which we make our jewelry, you should be especially careful with alcohol-free hand sanitizers . Instead of alcohol as the primary agent, these disinfectants contain chemicals and chlorine -based compounds. While they still kill germs and bacteria, they contain aggressive compounds that tarnish sterling silver.

HOW TO CLEAN IT?
To remove stains on the silver piece, you must use an abrasive and a detergent. We recommend placing the piece in a container with baking soda (abrasive) and a little detergent, mix and then rub the silver piece with your hands if it is a chain or bracelet. If it is a ring or pendant we recommend using an used toothbrush. After this procedure, we recommend using a cloth with polishing paste.

HOW TO CARE FOR GOLD PLATED JEWELRY?
If your jewelry is made of Gold-plated Silver, you must take extra care. Avoid bathing with them, applying cream and/or perfume directly on your jewelry.
